Utah Fits All Scholarship Guide for Christian Online Learning

Utah families who want a Christian education at home often have two questions: What kind of support does my child need, and how will we pay for it? The Utah Fits All Scholarship can help eligible students pay for qualifying education expenses, but the amount available depends on the student’s age and enrollment category.

For families considering Thrive Online Academy, the first step is to match the right learning program with the correct scholarship funding route. This guide explains eligibility, award amounts, applications, payment options, and the questions to ask before enrolling.

What is the Utah Fits All Scholarship

Utah Fits All, often called UFA, is an education savings account program for eligible Utah students in kindergarten through grade 12. Scholarship funds support qualifying educational expenses. Odyssey administers the program and handles questions about applications, accounts, and providers. The Utah State Board of Education directs families to Odyssey for current program guidance. Utah State Board of Education

Each participating student has a digital wallet in Odyssey. Families can track balances and transactions there, with payment options for approved schooling and educational purchases. An award is tied to the individual student and the program’s rules. Odyssey scholarship overview

Age is determined as of September 1 of the scholarship year. Students entering the program during the year may receive a prorated amount. These figures describe the program’s award categories; they do not establish what a particular Thrive student will receive. Odyssey scholarship overview

Before comparing tuition with a scholarship amount, confirm the student category in your Odyssey account. Learning online from home does not, by itself, settle whether a student qualifies for the private-school award.

Who is eligible for Utah Fits All

Odyssey’s eligibility guidance covers Utah students participating in kindergarten through grade 12 who are ages 5–18 on September 1. Families must verify primary Utah residency. Special provisions apply to qualifying military families. Students must also meet the program’s enrollment and continuing-eligibility requirements. Odyssey eligibility requirements

Receiving UFA is incompatible with certain other publicly funded education arrangements. Odyssey identifies restrictions involving public-school enrollment, publicly funded Statewide Online Education Program courses, and the Carson Smith scholarship programs. If your child uses a public online program or another scholarship, ask Odyssey how to resolve that arrangement before receiving UFA. Odyssey eligibility requirements

Eligibility does not guarantee an award

When demand exceeds available funding, enrollment preferences matter. Odyssey’s published order prioritizes eligible returning students who have completed accountability requirements, qualifying siblings, and new applicants with household income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level. Remaining scholarships are awarded to eligible applicants through a lottery. Families above that income level can still be considered. Odyssey enrollment preferences

Can Utah Fits All support Christian online schooling?

Christian schools appear on Odyssey’s approved private-school list, as do online schools. Families should check the exact institution and the relevant school year. A school’s Christian identity or online format alone does not establish its approval status. Approved 2026–27 private schools

For the private-school category, Odyssey requires a full-time, tuition-bearing institution that provides the majority of the student’s academic instruction. Its 2026–27 policy includes instruction on at least three days per week and instruction by someone other than the student’s parent. Schools that do not qualify for direct tuition payments may still qualify to offer curriculum or educational services through the marketplace. Odyssey private-school policy

Ask two separate questions: Is this specific educational offering eligible for scholarship spending, and does enrollment qualify my child for the private-school award category? Approval of a service should not be treated as proof of the higher award.

Using Utah Fits All with Thrive Online Academy

Our financial aid page lists Utah Fits All among the programs Thrive accepts. Before enrolling with scholarship funds, contact our team to confirm the current offering, the name under which it appears in Odyssey, and the payment method available for your child.

Bring your student’s approved category and available balance to that conversation. Ask our team to identify which services the proposed package includes and what documentation we can provide. Odyssey determines scholarship eligibility and spending approval; Thrive can explain its educational program and billing.

A useful question to send is: “My child is approved for Utah Fits All as a [student category]. Which Thrive package fits their grade and support needs, and how should I verify payment eligibility with Odyssey?”

Choosing the right level of learning support

Our published curriculum information describes Christian instruction, flexible subject placement, and weekly learning expectations. Younger learners use physical workbooks, while online curriculum supports older students. Our K–2 offerings require the four- or six-hour weekly teacher-support packages. Families should confirm current grade availability and package details with our team. Explore Thrive’s curriculum

Think through a normal school morning before choosing a package. Can your child read instructions and begin work independently? Who will help when a lesson is difficult? How much time can a parent spend supervising? The answers will help you compare the cost of additional teacher support with the help your child actually needs.

What educational expenses may qualify

Odyssey’s eligible-expense guide includes curriculum, textbooks, tutoring, educational software, certain technology, and tuition or course fees. Some educational therapies and enrichment services also qualify. Category restrictions and spending limits apply; an item’s possible use in a lesson does not automatically make it eligible. Odyssey eligible-expense guide

Build your spending plan around core instruction first. Then identify any remaining needs, such as reading support or required materials. Check whether those expenses are already included in your school package before purchasing them separately.

How scholarship payments work

Odyssey provides three spending routes: marketplace purchases, direct tuition payments to approved private schools, and reimbursement requests for eligible outside purchases. Home-based students may qualify for reimbursement of certain fees paid to schools outside the approved private-school list, but individual expenses remain subject to review. Odyssey spending and reimbursement guide

For reimbursement, retain both an itemized description of the purchase and proof of payment. An unpaid invoice does not establish that money changed hands. Payment-app screenshots also need supporting purchase documentation. Review the required records before paying so you can request the right receipt from the provider. Odyssey reimbursement documentation

Keep each child’s spending separate. Odyssey does not allow families to pool or transfer scholarship funds between siblings. Reimbursements are reviewed individually, and approval is not guaranteed until a complete submission has been evaluated. Odyssey spending and reimbursement guide

How to prepare your application

As of September 10, 2026, Utah Education Fits All reports that applications for 2026–27 are closed. Its published schedule lists April 1 as the opening date for new students and May 1 as their closing date. Check Odyssey for the next application cycle instead of assuming last year’s dates will carry forward. Utah Education Fits All application timeline

If you already applied, review your account and any outstanding requests. If you missed the window, use the time to compare programs and gather documents. Confirm with Odyssey whether any current-year options apply to your situation.

Documents to gather

Odyssey’s application checklist calls for student identification and current-calendar-year proof of Utah residency, such as a utility bill, mortgage statement, lease, or property tax record. New applicants and returning parents adding a new student also provide information for household-income verification. Applicable military families submit military orders. Follow the current portal’s instructions for accepted tax years and document formats. Odyssey application documents

Keep copies in one folder, label files clearly, and use consistent names and addresses throughout the application. Monitor your email after submitting. A school enrollment application and a scholarship application are separate steps, so track both.

Planning for tuition and remaining costs

Thrive’s published annual package prices range from $4,000 to $10,000 before listed pay-in-full discounts. The tuition page also lists a $150 application fee and a $500 enrollment fee as nonrefundable. Request a current, itemized quote for your child’s grade and package, including any additional costs. Thrive fees and tuition

Use the following calculation when comparing options: total confirmed educational costs minus scholarship funds approved and available for those expenses equals the amount your family needs to cover. Leave room for expenses that are ineligible or paid before funding becomes available.

For example, a hypothetical $6,500 in eligible educational costs with $4,000 available and approved would leave $2,500 for the family. This is a budgeting example, not a Thrive quote or a promise of reimbursement.

Keeping your scholarship for the following year

Scholarship renewal requires an annual reapplication and timely submission of the required portfolio or assessment. Award continuation is not automatic. Odyssey scholarship overview

Odyssey’s portfolio examples include student work, a learning summary, progress reports, and assessment results. Its guidance says one qualifying item can meet the requirement; families do not need to reproduce every sample format. Odyssey portfolio examples

Save a few meaningful work samples as the year progresses. A writing assignment from the fall and another from spring can help you describe growth. Put the renewal and accountability deadlines on your calendar when Odyssey announces them.

Frequently asked questions

Does every student receive 8000 dollars?

No. UFA distinguishes between private-school and home-based students, with age affecting home-based awards. Confirm your category and actual available balance before committing funds. Odyssey scholarship overview

Does school accreditation determine UFA approval

Odyssey’s private-school policy lists accreditation documentation as optional. Scholarship approval and accreditation are separate questions. Ask a prospective school about both, especially if transfer credits or future graduation requirements matter to your family. Odyssey private-school policy

Can siblings share one scholarship balance

No. Each student’s funds must be used for that student under the program’s rules. Plan each child’s education budget separately. Odyssey spending and reimbursement guide
