Online Christian Kindergarten at Thrive

Looking for an online Christian kindergarten but don’t want your five-year-old spending the school day staring at a computer?
Neither do we.
At Thrive Online Academy, we’ve intentionally designed kindergarten differently from our online programs for older students.
Our youngest learners use physical curriculum, workbooks, manipulatives, handwriting, reading, and hands-on activities alongside personalized instruction from a Christian teacher.
Your child gets the flexibility of learning from home and the support of an online Christian school — without making a screen the center of their kindergarten experience.
Online School Should Look Different for a Kindergartener
A kindergartener doesn’t learn the same way a middle school or high school student does.
That’s why we don’t simply take an online curriculum designed for older students and put a five-year-old in front of it.
At Thrive, students in grades 3–12 primarily use our digital curriculum. Our K–2 students take a different approach.
We believe younger students benefit from physical materials, hands-on learning, direct teacher interaction, and opportunities to practice foundational skills away from a screen.
For kindergarten, that means much of the school day happens with a pencil, a book, manipulatives, a teacher, or a parent — not simply clicking through lessons on a computer.
Physical Kindergarten Curriculum Delivered to Your Home
When your kindergartener enrolls at Thrive, we send their physical curriculum directly to your home.
Kindergarten students use LIFEPAC physical curriculum for:
Math
Language Arts
We also provide Bible lessons as part of our Christ-centered approach.
Families receive the curriculum they need for the year along with manipulatives that allow children to interact with what they’re learning.
A teacher guide is also provided. Families can choose to mark assessments themselves or have their Thrive teacher mark their child’s books.
It’s online school with real books, real handwriting, hands-on learning, and real teacher support.
Less Screen Time. More Hands-On Learning.
We believe technology can be useful without becoming a child’s entire educational experience.
That’s particularly important during the foundational elementary years.
Thrive’s K–2 students spend time away from the screen completing activities such as:
Reading physical books
Practicing handwriting
Completing workbook lessons
Using manipulatives
Working on projects
Practicing skills independently
Learning alongside a parent
Applying concepts away from a device
Your child will still use technology to connect with their teacher and participate in the Thrive community, but the computer is a tool rather than the classroom itself.
For families who like the flexibility of online education but are concerned about excessive screen time for young children, this creates a very different kind of online kindergarten experience.
Kindergarten With a Real Christian Teacher
Reducing screen-based coursework doesn’t mean reducing teacher involvement.
In fact, we do the opposite.
Thrive’s younger elementary students receive more direct teacher support because we believe children in these foundational years benefit from working closely with an educator.
Our K–2 students are offered our four- or six-hour weekly teacher-support packages.
Teachers can introduce and reinforce concepts, work through areas where a student is struggling, monitor progress, and help families understand what their child should work on next.
Rather than handing parents a curriculum and expecting them to figure everything out themselves, we provide a structured learning plan.
The curriculum is self-paced, while your child’s teacher maps out the assignments that should be completed each week so your student can make steady progress toward completing the school year.
You can also meet our Christian teachers and staff and learn more about the educators supporting Thrive students.
How Much Time Does Online Kindergarten Take?
Kindergarten doesn’t need to recreate a seven-hour traditional school day at home.
At Thrive, kindergarten students typically spend approximately 4–6 hours per week on their learning.
Because students learn at different speeds, the exact amount of time will vary from child to child.
The goal isn’t to keep a five-year-old busy for a certain number of hours.
It’s to help them build the academic foundations they need while still giving them time to play, move, create, explore, spend time with family, and simply be a child.
What Will My Kindergartener Learn?
Our kindergarten program focuses heavily on the foundational skills students need before moving into first grade.
Language Arts
Students begin building the foundations of reading and communication through age-appropriate Language Arts instruction.
Physical materials allow students to work through lessons while practicing skills away from a screen.
Reading and writing aren’t just things students watch someone demonstrate. They’re skills children practice themselves.
Math
Kindergarten students use physical LIFEPAC Math materials along with manipulatives to help make early mathematical concepts more concrete.
Young children often benefit from seeing, touching, counting, writing, and working through a concept rather than only interacting with it digitally.
Bible
Christian education isn’t simply a secular curriculum with a Bible class added at the end.
Our kindergarten students receive Bible lessons, and biblical truth is incorporated into the learning experience.
We want children to begin their education understanding that their faith and their learning belong together.
Personalized Learning From the Beginning
Children don’t arrive in kindergarten at exactly the same academic level.
One student may already be beginning to read independently. Another may still be learning letter sounds.
One child might move quickly through early math while needing more time with handwriting.
We don’t believe those differences should automatically be treated as problems.
Thrive uses placement assessments to help determine the appropriate level for students, and our curriculum allows children to work at a pace that better reflects their abilities.
Our teachers monitor progress throughout the year and can provide additional support when a student encounters something difficult.
That means kindergarten can be about growth rather than simply keeping up with the child sitting at the next desk.
Online Christian Kindergarten Without Homeschooling Alone
Some families love the idea of homeschooling but quickly realize how much responsibility comes with doing everything independently.
You may need to select curriculum, plan lessons, teach new concepts, determine pacing, assess progress, grade work, and decide whether your child is ready to move forward.
Thrive offers another option.
Your child can learn from home while your family receives curriculum, structure, teacher support, progress monitoring, and a Christian educational community.
Parents remain an important part of the learning process — particularly with younger students — but you aren’t building kindergarten entirely on your own.
That’s the balance we want Thrive to provide.
A Four-Day School Week With Flexibility for Families
Live instruction at Thrive takes place Monday through Thursday.
Families establish a consistent schedule with their teacher, but students also have flexibility to complete their curriculum at their own pace and work ahead when appropriate.
That can give families more freedom to build school around real life.
Kindergarten can include workbook time at the kitchen table, reading on the couch, hands-on activities, time with a Thrive teacher, outdoor play, family activities, and learning experiences beyond a computer.
We believe that flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of learning from home.
Christian Education From the Very Beginning
Kindergarten is more than a child’s first academic year.
It’s the beginning of how they think about learning.
At Thrive, we want children to develop strong academic foundations while also understanding that God is part of every area of their lives.
Our curriculum incorporates biblical truths, and our teachers approach education through a Christian worldview.
Students also have opportunities to participate in Thrive’s Christian community through chapel and age-appropriate school activities.
Our goal is to help students grow academically, personally, and spiritually.

Frequently Asked Questions About Thrive’s Online Christian Kindergarten
Is Thrive’s kindergarten completely online?
No. While students connect with Thrive teachers online, kindergarten uses physical LIFEPAC curriculum rather than relying exclusively on digital coursework.
Students complete much of their work offline through physical books, handwriting, reading, manipulatives, projects, and other hands-on learning activities.
How does Thrive reduce screen time for kindergarten students?
We intentionally use physical curriculum and offline activities for our youngest learners.
Instead of spending their entire school day working through lessons on a computer, kindergarten students use physical Math and Language Arts materials, manipulatives, handwriting, reading, independent practice, and hands-on activities.
Technology is primarily there to help students connect with their teachers and school community rather than replace every aspect of learning.
What curriculum does Thrive use for kindergarten?
Kindergarten students use physical LIFEPAC curriculum for Math and Language Arts. Thrive also provides Bible lessons as part of the program.
Are the kindergarten books included?
Physical curriculum is sent directly to K–2 families. Families receive the materials needed for the year along with manipulatives and a teacher guide.
Does my kindergartener have a real teacher?
Yes. Our younger elementary students receive direct teacher support.
Because we believe younger learners need greater interaction with their teachers, Thrive’s K–2 students use our four- or six-hour weekly teacher-support options.
How many hours per week does kindergarten take?
Thrive estimates approximately 4–6 hours of weekly learning time for kindergarten, although this varies depending on the individual child and how quickly they progress through concepts.
Do parents still need to be involved?
Yes. Kindergarten students naturally need more parent involvement than older independent learners.
Thrive is designed to give families curriculum, teacher instruction, structure, pacing guidance, and progress monitoring so parents aren’t responsible for creating and managing the entire educational program themselves.
Is Thrive’s kindergarten Christian?
Yes. Thrive is a Christian online school. Biblical truths are incorporated into the curriculum, kindergarten students receive Bible lessons, and instruction is approached through a Christian worldview.
Give Your Child a Different Kind of Online Kindergarten
Online kindergarten doesn’t have to mean hours of digital lessons.
We believe young children should still be able to hold a book, write with a pencil, use their hands, interact with a teacher, move around, and discover the world beyond a screen.
At Thrive Online Academy, we’ve intentionally built those experiences into our kindergarten program while giving families the flexibility and support that make online education so valuable.
Your child can learn from home.
They can receive personalized instruction from a Christian teacher.
They can build strong academic foundations through a Christ-centered curriculum.
And they can do it without spending their childhood sitting in front of a computer.
