Self-Paced Online Curriculum

Our self-paced online curriculum delivers Christ-centered core academics through a flexible, personalized program for each 3rd-8th grade student.

Core Subjects

  • Math – Developmentally sequenced lessons covering foundational skills through advanced concepts, emphasizing problem-solving and real-world application.
  • Language Arts – Reading, writing, grammar, and literature are designed to strengthen communication skills and cultivate a love for reading.
  • Science – Inquiry-based learning that explores God’s creation through life, physical, and earth sciences.
  • Social Studies – History, geography, civics, and cultural studies that build global awareness and biblical worldview thinking.
  • Bible – Age-appropriate courses focused on Scripture, discipleship, and practical Christian living.

    Unique Components

    • Flexible Self-Pace Learning – Students can move through the curriculum as fast as they want to, but the hours of live instruction expire once the year-long curriculum is complete.
    • Structured Learning Plans – Our curriculum is set up with weekly due dates to help students stay on track with completing their work through the year with flexibility to work ahead as well if families want to take a week off from school outside of our normal school breaks.
    • Assessment Structure – Students receive two attempts on each assessment, giving them the opportunity to review material and demonstrate mastery.
    • Adaptive for students with IEPs – Our platform includes adaptive features for students with IEPs, offering flexible pacing, alternative presentation styles, and tools to support diverse learning needs.
    • Faith-Based Education – Each subject is taught through a biblical worldview. Students are encouraged to think critically about their faith, apply biblical principles, and develop a deeper relationship with Christ as they learn.

    Flexible Placement

Every child learns at a different pace, and Thrive Online Academy is designed to honor that. Our placement tests ensure that students are placed exactly where they need to be in each subject—not just according to their age or traditional grade level.

    Students may be:

    • In one grade level for math
    • In a different grade level for language arts
    • Working above (or below) their age-based grade in any           subject

This flexibility allows students to move forward confidently, fill gaps when needed, and grow at a pace that truly fits them. Our goal is simple: place each child where they can learn well, stay challenged, and thrive.

    Accreditation

Thrive Online Academy is a Christian, accredited K-12 school that is accredited by Cognia to support students in the United States and around the world. We are nationally accredited and provide a course load that aligns with your faith values while also meeting national standards to guarantee a high-quality education! Our graduates receive a high school diploma and can choose between the basic credit route or the college prep route depending on what path they are planning to take once they graduate. We are thankful for the opportunity to walk with your child in their education!

How does thrive adapt our instruction to students with an IEP/504 plan?

Thrive offers adjustments to our students with special needs who have an IEP or 504 plan. The first thing we focus on is pairing your child with a teacher who has experience with your child’s learning challenge, so they are getting the best support they can get! We have multiple special education teachers on our team to support students who are experts in supporting students where they are. We can also adjust the grade level for each subject, so we are working within the child’s ability level, so if they are advanced in math and low in English, we can put them in two different grades for their coursework. We can also adapt the assignment by having the passages read to a student, additional attempts on assessment questions, and the ability to skip certain assignments if the teacher feels that is the best fit. We encourage families to choose a package that fits their needs, but most students with learning challenges will benefit from more 1-on-1 instruction, so we recommend choosing our advanced or elite packages.

    K-2 students curriculum

We believe that lower elementary students do best with physical books and maniputlatives so our Kindergarten, first, and second grade students will receive physical workbooks delivered to their home! The package includes the work for the entire year and manipulatives. A teacher guide will also be provided so parents can choose to mark the assessments or have the teacher mark their books. We only offer our four and six hour per week packages for our lower elementary students because they need more direct instruction from a teacher. The curriculum is all self-paced, but the teacher will map out what assignments should be completed each week to finish by the end of the year. Our curriculum has biblical truths incorporated into the lessons and will be taught through a Christian worldview. Our kindergarten students will receive books in math and language arts, and then our team will provide some Bible lessons as well, apart from the lessons. Our first and second grade students will receive books for math, language arts, science, and social studies. Since we provide a full year’s worth of curriculum upfront, the cost of the books will be taken from the tuition refund if a family chooses to unenroll their child from Thrive because returns are not allowed.

    High School Credits

Our high school students can choose either our basic path or our college prep path. We provide some flexibility to students when choosing their classes but the route will be determined by what they plan to do after they graduate. The basic path is 17 credits, while the college prep path is 24 credits. You can review the classes that are offered below. Our high school students can still choose to meet with a teacher 2, 4, or 6 hours per week, but since our high school teachers are specialized in specific subjects, they will likely need to have more than one teacher. High school students have the freedom to work independently on certain courses and get 1-on-1 support for courses that are more challenging for them.
